At Benihana, high-quality rice isn’t just another side dish; it’s an important foundational element of every meal we serve. Benihana has been dishing the irresistible flavor of our famous fried rice to generations of guests for over half a century, serving roughly three million pounds of Benihana fried rice each year.

Fried Rice Beating Heart

Declaring National Fried Rice Day

Fried rice is beloved throughout the globe and an iconic part of our guests’ Benihana experiences, which is why we wanted to give this signature item the spotlight and declare September 20 National Fried Rice Day. And, we’re kicking off the first-ever celebration of this food holiday in a major way.

The Ultimate Fried Rice Challenge

How much “heart” do we have for fried rice? Just ask our master chefs. To commemorate the new holiday, two of our highly-trained chefs will attempt to break the GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ title for longest cooking marathon. These top chefs are training to try their hand at cooking our fried rice for 42 continuous hours over a 500-degree Teppanyaki grill in our New York and Chicago Benihana restaurants beginning at 4 p.m. CST/5 p.m. EST on September 18.

Join the Fried Rice Fun

Guests can join in on the fun by visiting our Chicago Michigan Avenue or New York City restaurant from September 18 – September 20 and watch the cooking marathon first hand. On National Fried Rice Day (September 20), guests at select Benihana restaurants will receive a complimentary serving of our famous Hibachi Chicken Rice with the purchase of an entrée.

Giving Back

National Fried Rice Day is also an opportunity for us to give back. We’re partnering with Feeding America to donate all fried rice cooked during the marathon to their partners, City Harvest in New York City and Cornerstone Community Outreach in Chicago. City Harvest is New York City’s largest food rescue organization, helping to feed the more than 1.2 million New Yorkers who are struggling to put meals on their tables. Cornerstone Community Outreach serves nearly 500 low-income men, women and children daily in the City of Chicago, helping to raise the quality of life.
